Administration

Leading the Matthews Elementary community

Dr. Kimberly Lavender, Principal

My name is Kimberly Lavender and I began my journey in education in 2003. I am a native of Carrollton, AL and a proud graduate of Carrollton High School. I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to be Principal at the same school I have taught in for 15 years. This is my second year as Principal, but I have been a classroom teacher, interventionist, and Assistant Principal all at Matthews Elementary.

Matthews Elementary holds a special place in my heart and I am devoted to making Matthews successful. I expect to create stronger and lasting relationships between school, home, and community. It truly takes a village and I will work diligently to build a community of dedication and collaboration. Together we can achieve anything!

Dr. Dedre Slater-Warren, Assistant Principal

My name is Dr. Dedre Slater-Warren and it is an honor and privilege to be part of Matthews Elementary School. I have been in education for 21 years and have been at Matthews for 15 years. I have been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and currently Assistant Principal here at Matthews. Our school is a wonderful place for students to learn and grow. The entire MES Staff is dedicated to the success of every child. Our goal is to provide a healthy, happy and safe place, so our students can have the best educational experience possible. The Matthews Elementary community values academic and cultural excellence and we enthusiastically embrace the task of continuing to prepare students to be productive citizens as they write the next chapter of their educational lives.

I have spent many wonderful, meaningful years as an educator working with students, families and staff from Pre-K to 5th grade. All of my teaching and administrative experiences continue to inspire me to be reflective, and to think critically about cultivating the best learning environment for our children. Teamwork and open communication are essential in fostering positive and productive outcomes for all students. It is exciting to be part of the MES family and every day I am eager for the opportunity to motivate, engage and support the students, parents, teachers and community members of Matthews Elementary.
